The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of William Shakespeare most bloodiest, most powerful and most emotionally intense plays. It tells the story of a Scottish general, Macbeth, who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that tell him he will become King of Scotland. When he learns this he becomes consumed with ambitious thoughts which leads him to killing King Duncan and becoming King. After that he stews in guilt and paranoia and commits more and more murders to protect his kingship. In the end, this unchecked ambition and over confidence Macbeth has is his overall downfall.
Macbeth has many different ideas and aspects in the play but this website will show the themes of ambition and equivocation.
